Documenting a Day in a Family Life

A task for this session was clear. Fabiola, Georg and their little daughter Rosie wanted to spend time with one another in the most natural fashion while exploring a part of Stockholm city centre to commemorate this season of their life.
As a family originally from Germany, they wanted to imprint their time in Stockholm into a few visual memories and so they chose Skeppsholmen and Kastellholmen.
It was a perfect location for September session with all the changing colors and low-hanging afternoon sun!
Following Children's Footsteps
In order to document a natural family day I let Rosie take the lead and we started off with doing pretty much what she desired. As most of the children on my family sessions when they find out there are no "posing rules", she too immediately started to run around and explore her surroundings. I let the parents follow her and so we started the session with a lot of energy and smiles.
Transition to Snuggling Moments...
In all of my family sessions, a cuddling time is something I always incorporate into the photoshoot. I know how important it is to not only want to remember those close moments with one another but actually taking the time to enjoy each other in a few slow and calm moments when the world stops from spinning.
But in order to preserve the authenticity of such moments it must be done with care and on individual basis. Depending on the energy of your family and the what is unfolding, I have a few ways how to naturally transition into those snuggling moments.
In this case, as Rosie was fully embracing her little wanderlust feet, we made it through a little surprise game where I had her dad surprise her and the mom by wrapping them with a blanket as a burrito from behind. All the moments after that happened naturally and without an effort, keeping Rosie in good mood and happy.

City Views in the Middle of nature
As the sun was setting over the city we made it to the top of Skeppsholmen to enjoy the view and document family's memories with city as their backdrop.
And as it often happens, it lead to yet another set of beautiful natural moments when Rosie stumbled on the last of autumn flowers and made the whole family sit around and pick a little autumn bouquet.

Wandering Through Rest of Skeppsholmen
After all the running and exploring, the family was ready to sit down and enjoy a few snacks watching the sun set behind the buildings of Gamla Stan on the other side of the city.
It generated a whole new batch of beautiful snuggling moments and gave Rosie a bit of energy to explore the sparkling lights of Gröna Lund at Kastellholmen where we finished off.
